Get involved at the Discovery Shop

Volunteering for the Discovery Shop is easy there are opportunities for all types of skill sets. Volunteering can be categorized into two functions; shop level volunteers and Business Advisory Council members. (Check back soon for details regarding volunteering for the Business Advisory Council.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Donation Processing 
Responsible for receiving donations and offering donors tax receipt forms.  Inspects donations and sorts by type, including clothing, accessories, and household items.

Merchandise Preparation
Responsible for thoroughly inspecting donated items.  Steams clothing and cleans merchandise when applicable.  Tags all merchandise in preparation for pricing.

Merchandise Sales 
Responsible for welcoming and assisting all customers.  Operates the cash register and bags purchases.  Keeps the sales floor and fitting rooms clean and orderly.

Special Events/Display Team 
Work to recruit and recognize volunteers, plan and host Shop events, provide support to community-based events, sales, and promotions.  Some members dress the Shop windows, provide over-all merchandising of the Shop, and arrange all seasonal displays.

Donations Team 
Work to address the Shop’s donation needs, accessing varied donation sources including individuals, groups/clubs, and businesses.

Marketing Team 
Works to identify and access varied advertising and branding opportunities.  Develops print, radio, advertising, face-to-face, and social media content and maintains the Shop’s website and Facebook page.

Business Advisory Council 
Comprised of business owners and/or managers.  BAC members offer the Shop retail expertise and assistance, advising us on ways to increase sales, improve customer service, secure resources, heighten community awareness, and more .
